Neil Patel Is A Social Media Mastermind
At 26, I get told every day that I am “doing well for my age.” Sure it is flattering and yes I am proud of my accomplishments to date, but it is guys like Neil Patel, at just 22 years old who really inspire me. You see, less than a year ago, no one knew who Neil Patel was. Today, he is make a six-figure income, is the CTO at ACS, is a speaker at various conferences and is thought of as one of the thought leaders in the social media space - thanks in part to his use of social media and social networking. That is why I thought Neil would be a great subject to learn from.
I recently had a chance to speak with Neil about his use of Facebook and where he sees the platform going in the near future.
Neil, tell everyone who you are and what you do?
My name is Neil Patel and I am a 22 year old college student. Other then going to college I work at ACS where I help companies leverage the social web.

Chris Brogan Is A Social Media Thought Leader
If you have never heard of Chris Brogan, you probably don’t know much about social media. Chris is one of social media’s premier thought leaders. Chris does not just talk the talk, he also walks the walk. Simply put, he know his stuff. So for those of you don’t know Chris, check out Chris’ blog and make sure to subscribe to his RSS Feed after reading this interview. Trust me, you will be glad you did.
Chris, tell everyone at home who you are and what you do.
I’m Chris Brogan and I am a social media expert. I use this to build conferences like PodCamp (a free unconference) and Video on the Net ( a paid conference). I make media of various types, and build relationships between humans.
So, what’s your Facebook strategy?
I use Facebook to extend awareness and context around the media I make. I don’t make Facebook a destination. I make it a place that people can find more about me, and hopefully come to MY place, which is my website, [chrisbrogan.com]
Is Facebook Your Preferred Social Network?
No. I like Facebook, but I prefer Twitter.
Why do you prefer Twitter to Facebook?
It’s lightweight. I like that I can use it on the web, my phone, an IM client, or a 3rd party app. I like Facebook, too, but if I had to pick one or the other, hello Twitter.

Interview With APPMRKT Creators Ben Bleikamp and Jonathan Otto
August 30th, 2007 — Facebook Interviews
APPMRKT Allows Facebook Applications to be Bought and Sold
Last week I covered the release of APPMRKT, a marketplace for the buying and selling of Facebook Applications. With APPMRKT Facebook developers can list their application while others can bid on Facebook applications. Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to chat with Ben and Jonathan about APPMRKT, Facebook applications, and the future of the Facebook platform.
What was your motivation behind creating APPMRKT?
I (Ben) had been thinking about developing a Facebook application and I was thinking about how I would monetize it. A few years ago I spent my summer building up simple websites and blogs and selling them at a website marketplace. I realized the same format might work for Facebook applications shortly after I heard about Slide’s acquisition of Top Friends for $60,000.
I shot Jonathan an IM a few days after I came up with the idea, asked him if he wanted to work on it with me, he said yes, and we were off. It took us 10 days from idea to pushing the site live, so now we’re fixing bugs and trying to get the design to look a little more “crisp.”
How much does it cost to sell an application on APPMRKT?
Since it is brand new we have decided that people can list applications for free. In the future we may charge a flat rate to list an application or charge a percentage of the sale price, similar to eBay. Right now we want people to list their applications and tell us what they’d like to see added or fixed - so it’s free.
