My friend at Facebook Observer, Garrett had written a famous post called Banned by Facebook in August. It has been two months since then, but the story doesn’t seem to end. Reading Glenda’s post in The Sydney Morning Herald makes me feel no different at all.
Glenda’s Facebook account has been disabled recently without any warning. It has been explained that she had used fake first and last names for filling her profile. Shocked Glenda did a Google search quickly and expectedly she discovered that there were many bloggers like her whose Facebook accounts had been disabled citing some silly reasons.
Most of the accounts have been disabled for no reason, with no grace period or warning and for reasons which according to bloggers are not strong enough for being banned.

Facebook Disabled one of our developer accounts with several applications tied to it…
They cite ‘fake name’ but we had actually put in a request to change it to a different name BEFORE they disabled it (some twat in the dev forums was threatening to get us banned, so we tried to beat him to the punch) but they killed it anyway. Now they don’t reply to our emails and we hae lost several apps that we worked hard onand have userbases now maoning that no one owns or maintains the app…
Silly Facebook… As long as you us a Fake Name that sounds real you are ok. But Amanda Hugankiss is banned.
Chickenhole- Yeah, sometimes Facebook behaves in a strange fashion, especially when it comes to choosing the login ids.

Facebook disable me because I wrote 10 messages for womens on dating application.
The messages were almost the same, except the names of the womens.
They disabled me yesterday, and I am still waiting.
I think we need to put a link on google for compatitors of facebook under the name facebook, and click it.
My Facebook account has been ‘disabled’ and I’m not sure why. I was given a warning and it was disabled within seconds and wasn’t even given time to see what was going on. I’m not that computer literate and I play the game very fairly and am no threat to anyone I can assure you. Please re-activate as soon as possible. What I was doing was ‘nudging’ some players so we could finish our games. I may have touched some keys in error and no harm was intended. Could you re-consider and activate my account as I really enjoy the games and contacts with people from all over.

then they asked me to send any governemnt issued ID to verify my real name .. i sent my driving license scanned but as promised they didnot reactive my account..

I have always been a paragon member of facebook. I had never been warned and have never posted anything offensive or inapropriate. I have used facebook to communicate with friends, girlfriends, and to do academic projects with partners. In my inbox, alot of invaluable material is present, such as the first letters I had sent to my highschool sweetheart. One night at around 2 am, I was up late over spring break and created a political group. Although this is controversial amongst the majority of facebook users, which I respect and understand it was called “One million strong for John McCain” ( I am actually a liberal moderate who just happens to support him). I live in a hardcore liberal community, so attempting to aquire membership from my native population would be socially retarted and would invoke offense. I went onto only groups with a similar agenda ( all conservative). I posted two links for my facebook group per each group I went on. Of course, I never sat down and read the entire terms of use ( who in god’s name does), so when my first warning came up ( which did not specify how many posts must occur before a block was triggered) I continued posting simply because it seems facebook was relativley lenient and I was innocently advertising a facebook group without focus towards a singular wall and only focusing distribution towards groups with a similar agenda. I wrote nothing offensive, just simply posted a link. I wasn’t scared of the block and thought it was worth it, being that facebook impressed such lienency and seemingly didn’t have a conservative attitude about it. I hit the block, and none of my posts were deleted. I had posted in total around 15 times in various different groups. Obviously it seemed to have been worth it, and because I was doing nothing obscene or degrading it seemed everything would be okay. Literally two minutes later the block was lifted. I went onto a different group and posted once. A similar warning came up. I posted again, and my profile was immediatley disabled. Two more times qualified for my profile being disabled. I understood this, and wasn’t distraught at first expecting it to eventually come back. I hadn’t been doing anything obscene or offensive. My posts would be swallowed up on progressive walls and really had no impact on the many groups I had dilluted them with. I know people that literally have blatant pictures and albums of them engaging in underage drinking and hitting bongs while having like group sex. Never once have I seen there been a single reprecussion. Although I do not condemn underage drinking, it is still considered illegal by our judicial system and I find it inconsistent for facebook to be so conservative with censorship as to permanently disable my account after I sent two posts after a block was lifted and then so liberal and open minded with censorship with illegal photos ( which in nature, are on a worse wavelength then what I was doing). I am familar with people who have invited me along with eighty people to a political group supporting barrack obama. I posted seventeen times and I am under the impression that facebook without hesitation, permanently deleted my account. After five days of sending polite inquiries to facebook, they have remained un-responsive. Letters that I consider invaluable material and my own property were on that site. Letters that literally told the story of a few important intimacies I’ve had with people. Two mundane posts being equi to permanent expulsion from facebook is quite a feat of censorship in relation to the constant barrage of illegal photos and excess group invitations I see disregarded. I can understand if I have been temporarily disabled, but I am growing worried, and facebook as not provided such clarity. I can only see injustice in permanent deletion, and because I am now educated I would never exceed posting limitations again.
One day, I decided to find my old friends in other countries, found and messaged “hi” to many of them, and their friends. Soon there appeared the warning, I thought it was a daily message limit and go on, and my account is disabled forever. I use facebook for long time, and did no harm to nobody so far. If violated the terms very sorry for that, be sure it wont happen again, please enable my account.
I think I’ve set a record, I created a facebook account and got it banned within 24 hours. I have no idea what I did wrong, and after 2 days have not heard anything (other than automated replys) from facebook. All I did was create an account search for friends, invite some friends, and post a reply on my wall - saying I was confused with Lost :((

I’ve been disable and I have no clue why. No warning. I was uploading a picture of my boyfriend and I had a hard time so I had to upload again, once done I notice that I was disable. Please reactivate my account. I might of stroke the wrong key, I just don’t know.

Ja - I got disabled, just few mins after a warning, because I am adding people that I know (friends) very fast - I must slow down. I thought I did slow down, but proved not according to their “expectation”. I have amazing friends I re-connected with world wide, and we were having fun on facebook. Also joined amazing groups in the areas of corporate finance, venture capital, etc. Well, I will miss talking to my friends on Facebook - but life goes on my friends. I will start my own very soon. I know I did not do wrong, just happened to be too fast to Facebook user system. Maybe Facebook need to upgrade to my speed.

My profile was unfortunately abolished yesterday, for a reason unknown to me. I was finding friends through the friend finder/search engines and suddenly my profile was logged out and disabled. First of all I have been waiting for customer service for a few days now, and second I do not display drugs, alcohol, nasty language, threats, nudity or sex pictures, videos, ect. on my profile, therefore I do not see any reason why my profile was eliminated, and therefore would like an explanation. I hope we can come to terms or some kind of an understanding of the disablement.
I would also like my profile enabled if that is possible.

I got disabled last night like many of you.. I think it has to do with your internet connection speed also. I noticed when I reached the limit on my fast work connection i would get the pop up warning, but on my home slow internet there is no pop up warning or even Facebook Chat, which leads you to push the limit without knowing it.
Its absolutely disgracefully the way they treat us loyal subscribers. However on the positive, i thought ‘ all those 300 people i haven’t spoken to in years haven’t enriched my life. My life was fine without them, plus most of them are now egotistical assholes’.

I was just disabled without any warning they said I wasn’t a member of a school network but I was. they didn’t send my an email before hand I just got a message when i tried to login which said my account was disabled. I would really like it restored.

i was going to try to log in on facebook one day and when i did it sed that your accunt is disabled because you did not put what highschool you go to within 60 days it did not give me any notice and i would realy like to have my account back because i love face book more then MSN,MYSPACE AND EVEN some games i like to play. face book gave me a chance to talk to my friends that had face book not MSN, OR MYSCAPE because most of them have face book rather then the other things i have so if you could find it in your heart to enable my account it would be apreceated.

My account was disable on June 13 of last week in fact. I was shocked and surprised by this move. Since I’ve been disabled I’ve learned that Facebook social utility which I was invited to join I might add has a lousy customer care attitude. I did hear from them yesterday. I got the standard response that others have gotten. Someone accused me of harrassing but I never harrassed anyone. But Facebook arrogant customer care,the lack of it should be outed before the public. MySpace has better customer care than Facebook could ever imagine. But to delete/block an account with explaining to the user before hand is honestly bad customer service. Maybe it’s the reason NewsCorp didn’t buy it eh?

my facebook account was disabled due to having a ‘fake name’. I used my full name as stated on all my formal ID docs and birth certificate and also registered through my university email address which states my full name. My account was disabled last night and I am really annoyed as I have over 300 friends and over 60 photo albums documenting the last 5 years. I will be absolutely distraught if I lose all this. I have emailed FB and so far received nothing but automated replies. My surname is somewhat unusual but it is genuinely my surname and to be honest I think is very poor conduct of Facebook to assume that just because someones name isn’t run of the mill that it is fake. THIS IS RIDICULOUS….they just disabled my account without any warning because apparently i’m using a fake name!this is my realname..and i’ve been using this account for over 3 and a half years.i have more than 650 contacts, i live away fromhome, and this is the only way that I can keep in touch. I am really REALLY disappointed with facebook….atleast be decent about it and send a warning eh?and also-lately starnge thinbgs have been happening on my account-yesterday-apparently a mass wall post was sent out to me to all my 670 friends, abhout ‘finding true love–AND I NEVER SENT THIS. My facebook account was disabled without warning about three weeks ago - I only found out when I tried to log on. I contacted facebook to find out why, and about a week later they sent me an email accusing me of spamming / sending advertisements - which I absolutely deny. I hardly ever use my account and send maybe 1-2 messages a month. They said the decision was final - no recourse, no way to retrieve the photos of my recent travels and information describing each photo that I spent hours meticulously preparing. All of it lost and no way to get it back. It really sucks that they can just cut off legitimate users like this. I would urge all fb users to back up any photos / info they care about becuse the facebook gestapo can ban you in an instant -no warnings - no recourse.

I still can’t access my acount, and I am very disappointed with this. This is the first time that it has happened. Could you please look into this matter and sort the issue out. I would really appreciate it, and also if you could enable the account again, since i had photos and other contact details which are essential and were only present on facebook.
