Facebook Causing Problems in BlackBerry

blackberry_pearl_large Recently, we informed you about Facebook being available on BlackBerry mobile phones. However, we’re sorry to say that Facebook has been causing a bit of problem on Blackberry smart phones.

The Blackberry Facebook application does not offer support for popular third party applications which are available normally otherwise. It does come with basic functionality like Poking, changing status, uploading photos and managing friends’ list and even sending messages. Another important aspect is that BlackBerry users are logged in all time, so that they can use the Push button to send messages using Blackberry.

This feature itself is causing “Battery problems” or more appropriately is draining out the battery unit quickly. Indiatimes reporter, Neeraj Saxena reported at least three users who had been facing battery issues post installation of Facebook on their BlackBerry phones. When the users did delete the Facebook application from their phones the battery status improved by 10% to 15%.

According to one of the users Kunal, “I downloaded it the very day it was launched. For next week or so, my battery would get drained out within a day, unlike the two days it used to last earlier. Then I figured out that it was due to this app and promptly removed it,” .

Some users have stated their BlackBerry Phones have been showing connectivity problems. “there was an error contacting Facebook”.

What happens when you introduce one of the Web’s most popular social networking sites with the world’s most popular smart phone? Cyber-poking, increased wall postings — and a couple headaches.

According to RIM’s spokesperson in Hongkong the problem could be largely due to older version of software in their mobile handsets as the application has been thoroughly reviewed and tested before being launched.

Facebook Observer Update: Nick seems to be have been problems with Facebook on his BlackBerry too. Read his blog post here.
