Indian high school students have been suspended over the comments posted on Facebook, raising questions and debate about free spech and usage of Internet.
The suspensions were prompted by a video of two high school students fighting at West Lafayette High School, Indiana. Soon after, more students were suspended primarily because of their comments posted on Facebook regarding the punishment.
Caitlyn Casseday, who is a student at West Lafayette High School, received a one-day suspension after he wrote something bad about school’s assistant principal Ron Shriner. Caitlyn was called into the office by Ron and told that he was hated by Ron.
Overall, there is a wave of negativity after the suspensions. More students posted comments on Facebook calling this move by school as disgraceful. Students believe overall 13 of them have been handed suspensions.
Casseday mentioned, “We have constitutional rights, and we’re protected under those.” “One of those is freedom of speech and freedom of print and expression.”
The officials of school have declined to comment on whole issue however it is being believed that the code-of-conduct posted on website is applicable to Internet also.
