When talking about the number of users a free service has, one often asks how many people actually use the service. With Facebook’s new application metrics, users and more importantly potential Facebook application buyers and investors now have better insight into the true power of a Facebook application. Obviously, this is great for buyers and potential investors. After all, and application is really only as good as the number of people using it - eliminating the possible “pump and dump” schemes that many Facebook application developers could potentially engage in in order to drive an increase in user numbers to increase the perceived value of their application.

These changes, along with the potential changes to the Facebook API signals that Facebook is serious about the quality of the applications being produced. For those who had dreams of launching basic applications and fueling their growth with “creative” marketing it might be time to rethink your “Facebook strategy”.
